WELCOME

Hello!  My name is Jessica Liu, and I am the creator of Teach with the Current.

Like many teachers I pride myself in being a lifelong learner. I have a passion for technology that I love to share with other educators. I began this blog during distance learning to help teachers who were struggling with their virtual classrooms. I’m here to give you ideas and resources to make learning interactive, engaging and fun!

MEET JESSICA LIU

I have a unique family background, which is why I wanted to become a teacher. My mom is from Cuba and my dad is from Taiwan. Although I am surrounded by different cultures at home, I never had a teacher of color to look up to.

I attended school at the University of Connecticut, earning my Bachelors in Science in Elementary Education and my Masters of Arts in Instruction and Curriculum.

In 2017 I became a Kindergarten teacher at a Title I school where many of my students do not speak English. I love this age group because they keep me on my toes, make me laugh out loud everyday, and have hearts of gold. No matter what challenges my students face, they are always caring, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. They truly thrive in a hands on learning environment and strong teacher-student connections. As we began distance learning I did not want to lose all of the progress I made with them. I knew that I had to work 10 times harder to create engaging lessons for my students that were also culturally responsive.

In this blog you will find academic and social-emotional resources that I use to teach my students virtually. My district uses Google Classroom as their main platform, which is why I have created everything with Google Slides. If your school uses SeeSaw, you can upload these slides and have students use the edit tool to complete each activity.

Since online learning is new for all of us, I know how stressful this transition can be. I have tried my best to create online worksheets and activities that are easy to use and interactive for students. Best of all… most of my products are FREE because if you are like me, you are teaching on a budget!

YOU MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR…

I use this blog as my personal teaching journal. It houses all of the resources I have made throughout my years as a teacher. Although there may be a few off topic posts that I have created for fun, you will mostly find…

  • Technology tips and tricks.
  • Literacy and math online worksheets.
  • Ways to support students’ social-emotional growth.
  • Engaging lessons you can use in your virtual or in person classroom.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. Don’t forget to stay connected by subscribing to our Teach with the Current email list.
